Wonderful Watermelon
Did you know that watermelons can be used in witchcraft? Over time, they have become symbols of summer, good vibrations and abundance throughout the world. They’re also associated with the element of water, water signs (Scorpio, Cancer, Pisces), and have a feminine energy. Here are some ways you can use watermelon in your craft:
Abundance and Prosperity: Watermelons, with their large size and many seeds, can symbolize abundance and fertility. In some rituals or spells focused on attracting abundance or prosperity, watermelon or watermelon imagery may be used as a representation of bountiful harvests and plenty. Hollow it out and use it as a bowl for your next abundance or prosperity spell, or use the seeds in a spell jar. You can also carve symbols into the skin of the watermelon to infuse it with magical energy before using it.
Unblocking and Refreshing Energy: Watermelons are known mostly for their refreshing and hydrating qualities. In hot climates or during summer, watermelon may be included in rituals or offerings to provide a sense of coolness and refreshment, or used to unblock stangant energy. Aside from a piece of watermelon being physically refreshing in summertime (and delicious!) you can use visualisation and mindfulness when eating one to cleanse and get an energetic boost! As you eat it, visualise a light green energy enveloping your body, paying attention to the parts of you that start to cool down.
Seeds in Divination: Watermelon seeds, like other seeds, can sometimes be used in divination or fortune-telling practices. This involves focusing on a question or situation and interpreting the patterns formed by seeds when they are cast or scattered.
Protective Charms: In some traditions, watermelons may be used as protective charms or talismans. They are believed to ward off negative energies or evil spirits when displayed in homes or on doorways.
In some parts of the Southern United States, it’s a tradition to eat watermelon on New Year’s Day. This practice is believed to bring good luck and prosperity for the coming year. Some even save a few watermelon seeds and plant them in their gardens as a symbol of growth and abundance. While, in Chinese culture, watermelons are sometimes used as a symbol of fertility and abundance. At weddings, it’s common to see decorative watermelons displayed to represent a fruitful and happy marriage. Watermelon seeds are also seen as a symbol of fertility, and they are often offered to newlyweds for good luck in starting a family.
