How to Make Moon Water
Starting out in witchcraft can be overwhelming, especially when spells call for things you don’t have or understand. Moon water is one of those magical items that often leaves beginners scratching their heads. Where do you get it? Can you make it? How does it work?
Fear not, witches! Today, we’re diving into the mystical world of moon water: what it is, how to make it, and the many ways you can use it to enhance your magical practice.
What is Moon Water?
Moon water is simply water that has been charged under the moonlight. While water is inherently magical, moon water takes this to the next level by infusing it with the moon’s energy. You can easily make it at home, and its uses are nearly endless. Use moon water in spells and rituals, add it to food or drinks, nourish your plants with it, craft potions and sprays, or cleanse your magical tools and space. Essentially, anything you can do with regular water becomes more magical with moon water.
How to Make Moon Water
All you need is a vessel (jar or bottle, something that you can seal with a lid), some incense to cleanse it, and a full moon!
Simply follow these steps:
- Cleanse Your Vessel: Choose a jar or bottle, clean it thoroughly, and dry it. Light your incense and use the smoke to cleanse the inside of your vessel.
- Fill with Water: Fill your cleansed jar or bottle with water. Some prefer distilled or spring water, but use whatever feels right for you.
- Charge Under the Moon: Find a spot outside where the moon can shine directly onto your jar (you can also pop it on your windowsill if you have a good view of the moon). Leave it overnight to soak up the moon’s energy.
- Collect Your Moon Water: In the morning, collect your water. Congratulations, you’ve made moon water!
Now you can get fancy with it, if you want to.
You can write your intention for the water on a slip of paper and place it under the vessel, or you can surround it with crystals that support your intention. You can also choose a container that aligns with your intended use – smooth, rounded jars for flowing, feminine energy or square containers for structured, masculine energy. Some witches use special bottles, while others are happy with an old pasta sauce jar from the kitchen.
