5 Ways to Connect with Hecate

Who is Hecate?

Hecate is the Greek goddess of magic, witchcraft, and the crossroads. Although she’s considered an Olympian deity, she’s actually much older than the Greek gods and goddesses, and is the only Titan to reside on Mount Olympus (the Titans were the original rulers of the cosmos, overthrown by Zeus and the Olympians).

As a guardian of the liminal spaces between worlds, Hecate is a guide who’s often invoked in rituals and spell work for protection, wisdom, and transformation. She’s powerful and mysterious, but freely offers illumination to those who seek her wisdom. It was Hecate who told Demeter to seek out the sun god, Helios, for information about her daughter Persephone’s disappearance. Her symbol is the torch, and the crossroads. If you’re not sure which path to take, Hecate can shed light on the path she wants you to follow.

Because of her ageless knowledge and wisdom, she’s also known as the Queen of the Witches, who embodies the maiden, mother, and crone aspects of femininity. With her ability to move between the spiritual and physical realms, from the Underworld to the human realm and back again, she shows witches their spiritual journeys, lighting the way with her torch.

5 Ways To Connect With Hecate

1. Hecate was well-known for her herbal knowledge. Studying or working consciously with herbs and plants of any kind is an homage to her, or creating your own small garden can recreate the magick found in Hecate’s sacred garden, Colchis.

2. Leave her and her hounds an overnight offering at your front door, and return it to the earth in the morning. Grapes are a good offering.

3. Connect with Sirius, the Dog Star. Gaze at the bright star for a while and feel her energy radiate down to you.

4. Connect with her under the New Moon. This is when the moon is barely visible, and while she’s present during all phases of the moon, the new moon is particularly special to her and when she’s most likely to respond.

5. Asking her for a message and scrying with a dark surface, such as water or a dark crystal, is certain to open lines of communication with Hecate.
